Michigan attractions and Terrific Towns
With any luck at all I will return to this spot real soon. In the middle of a trip through the upper peninsula I stayed in Felch for a couple days and was tired of my own cooking. So I happened to wander into Solberg's. I didn't know that it was locally famous and had been in operation since 1905. The interior is decorated with sports memorabilia and hunting trophies. The people are friendly and the service is good.
The really important thing is that the food is incredible. I like my steaks as rare as the law will allow. I mean barely cooked. It is difficult to find places that will prepare them that way and it requires both skill in the kitchen and top quality meat. Solberg's has both and this is easily the best Filet I have found anywhere in upper Michigan. I understand the prime rib is just as good and the House Specialty salad dressing is the best as well. Say hello to Dewey for me when you are there.
If you need a place to stay, try the Mill Town Inn.
Travel in Michigan will take you to nearly endless destinations. As you enjoy the sights and attractions, a little snack or a full meal will eventually become a necessity. In this section, and by region, I will let you in on some of the best places for some of my favorites.
The food destinations in this section are pretty much my favorites in every category.
Pinot Noir - made in Michigan.
Coppers for Hot Dogs
Jones for ice cream
Solberg's best filet in the U.P.
