Michigan getaway vacations to
Michigan attractions and Terrific Towns
In the late 1800's, the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. built
a blast furnace near the shore of Little Bay de Noc on Lake Michigan.
As a result of the increased labor force, Erick Walberg built the
three-story Kipling House as a boarding house for workers just outside
Gladstone, Michigan. In one of those odd happenstances that crop
up once in a while, this remarkable structure has been reborn.
What is more is that it sits right in the middle a part of Michigan that
remains pristine because the nearest major road takes you right past
this area. If you want a special getaway this is it.
Fantastic scenery, fishing, Monarch butterflys and my famous
Waterfall drive are all at hand and each is just an afternoon in
Michigan.
Current owners, Ralph and Ann Miller, have taken great price in lovingly restoring this 100-year-old home to its past grandeur in keeping with the history of the community. They have carefully included pieces of the history of Delta County; a granite counter in the kitchen once saw life in a long-ago bank used by the ironworkers; cherry-stained paneling lines the elegant dining room that once graced the walls of the historic House of Ludington and antique postal boxes now used as key-holders for the Kipling House guests.
