Michigan attractions and Terrific Towns
In
1884 J. F. Ellis of the Northville fish hatchery, brought a can with
5000 brown trout fry in it to this area. He dumped them into the Pere Marquette river near here. That
is how the first German brown trout were introduced to American
waters. Baldwin is a thriving town surrounded by some of the
most beautiful wilderness in this part of Michigan. You can
really enjoy the trip if you take Route 37.
Fun
of every kind is all around. There is Jones Ice Cream, some of
the best in the state, Pandora's Box and Up North Gift Co. for
shopping, an art gallery, Shrine of the Pines Museum, the
Huron-Manistee National Forest and the incomparable Pere' Marquette
river. In addition, Baldwin, Michigan, is home to one of the
most remarkable museums in all of Michigan, the Shrine of the Pines.
The Bowman Lakes Trailhead is west of Baldwin on 56th St. and is part of the North Country Trail. It leads to an overlook of Bowman Lake, passes through ravines and oak forests. Bowman Bridge Campground is just to the east.
