The River Road Getaway

mapThe River Road is one of two Scenic By-Ways in Michigan. It runs less than 20 miles from Route 65 east to Route 23 through Iosco County. This short ride can easily turn into a full day getaway in any season.

The entire by-way runs along the world famous AuSable River so you know you will have some incredible views. The entire way is paved so bike riders can relax and enjoy the views and the pure air. On the east end is Lake Huron and on the west end is the Huron National Forest. Along the way, there is plenty to see and do.

The Lumberman's Monument - The grounds are well kept and there are trails and exhibits that demonstrate the life and history of the lumbermen who settled this area. There is a very nice museum.

Iargo Springs - Gorgeous clear water springs are located at the bottom of the cliff and are reachable by a long, long flight of stairs. Considered a sacred place by Indians, this is still a magical place to visit.

Highbanks Trail - One of the most scenic trail routes in the Midwest. The trail follows a high bluff overlooking the AuSable River Valley.

For a bit of urban fun along the way, here are some side trips to get away from all of that nature out there.
