Perchville
is one of the longest running festivals in Michigan. Started back
in 1936 to coincide with the perch spawning season, it was immediately
popular with more than 15,000 visitors in 1938. Things have
changed a bit. The festival is now held in February so folks who
just want to have fun can go jump in the frozen lake.
That is right. They do have a polar plunge and way more people than you would expect line up to jump into a hole cut in the Lake Huron ice. Perchville has lots of other things going on. There is a parade, dog sled events, a "chilly" cookoff and the crowning of the King and Queen. In the past the coronation has taken place during an all you can eat perch feast.
There is a beer tent and a charge to enter it. Fun events abound for all. While the adults do have fun, there are plenty of activities for the kids.
By the way, some fishing does go on at the Perchville festival as well.
