If you head for historic Shiawassee, you may need to plan on more than one getaway, there is that much to discover and enjoy. Nature lovers, sports enthusiasts, history buffs, and foodies will find options all around.

durand depotThis is railroad country where rail history has been preserved in special ways. The Durand Depot is one and Pere Marquette Engine 1225 at the Steam Railroading Institute will delight kids of all ages.


Excellent trails are at hand and the Shiawassee River is another nature destination waiting to be enjoyed. Nearby is the little known Ringwood Forest with its trails and river access.   Of course, a visit to the area should include a stop at the Curwood Castle, the 7th most visited site in Michigan.


All of this fun is organized. There are groups to provide all the information one needs like, the Historical Society, Durand Union Station Michigan Railroad History Museum, Corunna Historical Village, the Steam Railroad Institute, and the Visitors Bureau in downtown Owosso.
