Michigan attractions and Terrific Towns
If
you are looking for a day trip with lots of variety, check out
Millington, Michigan. A walk through downtown will bring you
to several quaint shops. This is a very charming town in the
heart of the Thumb of Michigan with a unique character all its own. Millington is an old time
village. The compact downtown has several antique shops and a
couple of very cool gift shops. Family dining, an excellent
historical museum and a basket shop that is not to be missed.
"In 1871 the Detroit & Bay City Railway Company
obtained a right of way through Millington . The railroad was first
brought into this area around 1872. The construction of the tracks
first brought the trains into Otter Lake on December 31, 1872.
Construction continued on to Vassar on
March
1, 1873. Vassar's railroad was build by Townsend North. Mr. North
served as the president of the newly created Detroit & Bay City
Railroad from 1873 through 1875"... So begins the history
of the railway that will now become the Southern Links Trail.

The Southern Links Trail is unique in that it has a natural 3 degree grade along its length. The upshot is that when there were still rails there, cars had a tendency to start rolling and keep on rolling. Here are a few Trail Scenes from in and around Millington Michigan along the southern links trailway.
Things to do around town.
