IXL Historical Museum
Of all of the towns that owed their early
growth to the timber industry, Hermansville Michigan has
preserved its history in the museum that was once the office
of the Wisconsin Land & Lumber Co.
In this office, tremendous talent was at
work on the multitude of hardwoods and other timber in the
area. They produced the finest hardwood flooring of
the day and it was used in mansions and even the Mormon
Temple in Salt Lake City Utah.
The IXL logo is a derivative of the
wording "I excel" and is indicative of the superior quality
that went into every product produced there. The
development of a precise tongue in groove process lead to
this company becoming the largest hardwood flooring producer
in the country.
These are just a few of the artifacts in
the museum.
Hermansville, Michigan is just off U.S. 2,
west of Escanaba. Open 1-4 Memorial Day - Labor Day.
