Quiet Water Symposium - 2012
Saturday March 3, 2012
9 am - 6 pm
The Quiet Water Symposium celebrates
non-motorized outdoor recreation and a shared concern for
our Great Lakes environment. Last year nearly 2000 persons
attended this annual event. This year’s program will feature
seminars on outdoor activities such as, Kayaking Venice and
Paddling the Apostle Islands. In addition to these seminars
will be interactive displays manned by knowledgeable
enthusiasts and experts on topics such as wooden boat
building, camp cooking, cycling, kayaking and protecting our
watersheds and environment. The exhibition hall will hold
many vendors and outfitters all available to help you chose
the right gear, adventure location or classes with which to
get the proper start.
Ever increasing fuel prices and ecological concerns have
increased the interest in non-powered outdoor sports. This
has spurred the sales of canoes, kayaks, and sailing vessels
as well as bicycles and other “Green” human powered
conveyances. The 2011 Quiet Water Symposium will continue to
focus on these areas as it has done since 1996. For more
information on the Quiet Water Symposium visit

This year’s symposium will include a special presentation on
the Grand River Expedition 2010 as well as featuring
lectures and seminars from noted outdoor authors, Cliff
Jacobson, Doc Fletcher, Rob Center as well as Gary and
Joanie McGuffin. Dr. Jo Latimore will speak on the DNRE’s
volunteer water monitoring program and Dr. Erin Howard will
instruct us on K-9 First Aid in the field. Boat building and
restoration demonstrations will be given by Mackinaw
Watercraft and Columbia Wooden Boat Works. Other areas of
interest will be spotlighted by the MSU Sailing Club,
Cycling Clubs, Quiet World Sports and many environmental
groups.
