Jordan River Pathway
The
Jordan River Pathway was established to provide a hiking and
backpacking venue through the Jordan River Valley. You
can take a short hike of about 3 miles on the Deadman's Hill
loop which starts at the top of Deadman's Hill or, you can
plan to take the whole two-day hike and spend the night at
Pinney Bridge campground that is located at the end of the
first day hike. The entries to the Jordan River
Pathway are all on country roads. The trail is not
particularly strenuous but hiker's should plan for rest and
water. No motors are allowed here and the pathway is
not suitable for cross country skiing.
Along the way you will pass through a number of different stands of trees, old logging sites, beaver floodings and more. The Jordan River was designated as Michigan's first Natural Scenic river in 1972. As with many other areas, this region was ravaged by wild fire; here it was the great fire of 1909.
