Negwegon State Park

To my knowledge there is no place quite like this place any place.  This is a State Park but in has a number of very unusual features.  There are no motor vehicles allowed in the park.  You leave your car in the lot and hike in.  At the entrance are comfort facilities and an artesian well for water.  The only other thing is the song of nearby Lake Huron as it crashes into the beach.

There are just four campsites here and those are separated by as much as a half mile.  Each site is in the woods but just off the beach.  There are dark skies here and millions of stars.  Sometimes you can even see the northern lights.

The photos show the road leading to the park, yes it is gravel, and a couple of the paths near the lake.  There is a meadow is at the north end of the park near campsite four that is perfect for a day picnic.

Negwegon State Park is the perfect Michigan weekend getaway for those who want complete peace and quiet.

More information about this beautiful place can be found at the Alcona County Chamber of Commerce.
