Bellevue, Michigan
Bellevue, Michigan - First in Eaton County
Less than 30 minutes from Lansing and Battle Creek, Bellevue, Michigan is classic Michigan with pure natural beauty.
On your first drive through Bellevue you will probably be struck by the wonderful old homes and the excellent care they receive. A farmers market, car show, antique tractor show and Sandhill crane festival are a few of the events that add to the quality of life in Bellevue. Bellevue Michigan was first in Eaton County.
Bellevue is a small village yet, it is easy to drive right
through without noticing the sites of historical
significance scattered around town.
Downtown has the Village Hall with its unique, symbolic
stonework that tells the story of the early history,
Story In The Stones.
The Historical Society maintains a museum across from
Village Hall. This is also where you can find out about the
Mastodon discovery.
About 2 blocks away is the historic mill on the river. It is
now a private residence and has been restored. The
waterwheel provides power for electric generators in the
basement. The mill is open for tours on rare occasions.
Heading west out of town one finds a one room schoolhouse,
the ruins of a limestone kiln. Just down the road is the old
Lime Kiln and across from that is the Keehne Environmental
Area. Standing on the boardwalk there, the ruins of the old
lime processing plant are visible. Limestone quarried and
processed here was used in the construction of the capitol
building in Lansing.
Bellevue is another historic Michigan
destination.
