Pentwater Getaway
Pentwater, Michigan is an historic village on west side of the state. It really is quite beautiful, in fact, it would be accurate to use the word “quaint” in your description. As a destination for a quick getaway, Pentwater has a lot to offer. There are so many options that many visitors decide to stay over.
The
picturesque downtown stretches along the waterfront. The
older, historic section is where the best independent shops
are found. Everything from toys to tee shirts to upper shelf
art galleries are there to explore. It is in that same
historic district that some well known eateries are located.
There are factions who vote for which bar has the best
burger. They are both great. If you just want a snack, the
ice cream stand or the coffee shops can fill the bill. One
spot that is more difficult to find, but is well worth it,
is Bortell's north of downtown. They have been serving up
some of the best smoked fish in Michigan for several
generations. There is a lot to see in downtown, fortunately
Pentwater is a bicycle friendly place.
The
tree lined streets and nature areas around town add to the
fun. For one thing, there are about 100 Geo Cache sites in
town. Across the causeway is where the Pentwater Pathways
are found. After all that, pause on the village green where
Thursday evening band concerts have been a tradition for
more than 50 years. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention the
water. Pentwater has it and plenty of it. The village sits
on the outlet of the Pentwater River between Pentwater Lake
and Lake Michigan. All that means this is a great place for
water sports. You get everything from the Annual Fishing
Derby, to luxury yachts, to the big “lakers” out on Lake
Michigan. All that water means you have to choose which
gorgeous beach for your snooze.
Obviously, there is more to do than can be covered on a day trip. Fortunately, the Inns and Bed & Breakfasts can make the visit even more memorable.
